Power Pop Planet (The Lost Tapes)

by The Bings

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

The Bings are thrilled to announce the release of "Power Pop Planet — The Lost Tapes" on vinyl – with new bonus live tracks. This latest release continues the resurrection of the band’s legacy that lay dormant for nearly four decades.

The extended vinyl LP includes three songs from a 1981 show in Manhattan Beach, CA. These live tracks capture the band's raw energy and magnetic presence, offering listeners a front-row seat to The Bings' memorable performances. (The live tracks are not included on the CD/download edition of the album.)

The LP also includes a 4-color insert of archived photos from the band's June 1981 show at legendary Los Angeles club The Troubadour, and other archival material, providing fans with a visual journey through the band's history.

Led by David Chrenko, who worked at Bomp! Records in the late 1970s, The Bings epitomize the spirit of power pop, capturing everything that was great about the first wave of the punk-new wave-power pop music genres.

As music journalism SW Lauren writes, "If The Bings’ story was the plot of a Hollywood script, you’d probably say it wasn’t believable..." (rememberthelightning.substack.com/p/interview-the-bings)... Other reviewers have raved things like "A long lost power pop classic" and ""Great songs. Great Harmonies. So Good!"

    ------------------

Forty years after their final recording session, Los Angeles-based power pop The Bings is releasing its debut album. The 16-track master tapes sat forgotten in a California bedroom closet until they were discovered in a filing cabinet during the 2020 lockdown.

The Bings' "Power Pop Planet - The Lost Tapes" is a literal time capsule from the pre-MTV 1980s, when new wave, punk, and power pop were still underground genres that flourished mainly in New York and Hollywood clubs.

Driven by the songwriting of David Chrenko, and fueled by big guitars and 3-part harmonies, what you are listening to is the great “lost” album of the 1980s from The Bings: “Power Pop Planet — The Lost Tapes.”
